Which bag is right for my family?
First things first – what kind of emergencies are you preparing for? While The Earthquake Bag is designed for the challenges that come from a major earthquake, The Hurricane Bag is has tools & supplies specifically meant for evacuating or riding out a hurricane. The Emergency Bag was built to cover you in any situation, focusing on highly functional multi-purpose tools.
Now we need to know how many people you are preparing for. Some items need duplicated for each person (food, water, and personal hygiene supplies, for example), but many items don’t. It’s more cost-effective to buy one bag for all your people.
Next, how prepared can we get right now? If budget is tight but you don’t have anything in place yet, the Starter bag will at least cover the basics. Ready to check emergency prep off your list for good? Let’s get a Complete bag built for your family today. Want hot meals and a bit more comfort and stability in an emergency? The Premier bag is the right call.
Last thing – how many days do you want to cover? Everyone knows they need to prepare for 72 hours, but most preparedness experts strongly recommend supplying for a full week. We’ve made it easy to do either.
How much do the bags weigh?
Each bag is different. It depends how many people you are preparing for, which level you pick, and whether you choose 3 or 7 days. Check out each individual product page for bag weight.
What can you tell me about the bag itself?
We thoughtfully designed our backpack and bags to be the perfect vessel in an emergency- the best combination of size, storage, weight distribution and comfort. Plenty of strategic pockets, nylon webbing to attach anything you need, and high quality materials built to last.
Our hiker’s backpack measures 15" x 12" x 6". Most of the 3-6 person bags come in our large wheel bag [12” x 12” x 15”], and some family and 7 day bags come in multiple bags. Our smaller Starter bags come in a simple and quick drawstring bag.
Is there room to add other items to the bag?
Most bags have room to add personal items as well. Many people add clothes, documents, cash, an extra blanket, meaningful items, or anything they want to have ready-to-go.
Where should I store my bags?
Somewhere quickly accessible, centrally located, and close to the door. Emergency agencies generally recommend under the bed (where you spend a third of each day), by the door, or in your garage. Experts also recommend having on in the trunk of your car, as well as one at work.
Are the bags waterproof?
No, but they are water-repellent. If you want something completely waterproof, check out the waterproof dry bag in the Tools section. It’s one of our most popular items.
What should I do for my pets?
Check out our dog and cat bags. You’ll want supplies for the furriest members of the family in an emergency as well.
Do you do custom orders for large groups?
We do! Drop us a line at email@example.com and tell us what you are looking for. We pride ourselves on helping everyone find the right solution for any circumstance.
What bag do you recommend for the car and at work?
Best case scenario, you’d have the same size and level of bag at home and in your car, and a one-person bag at work. At the very least, pick up a starter bag for the car and work so you have the basics covered.

How likely is a major earthquake?
If you live on the west coast, near fault lines, or fracking sites, major earthquakes are a certainty. No one knows exactly when the next major earthquake will hit, but scientists can predict based on historical frequency and probability. Get familiar with the risks where you live.
I’ve heard about ‘The Big One’ one for years, but it hasn’t happened yet. Are scientists full of it?
We love a good conspiracy (was the moon landing fake?), but no. Major earthquake cycles are in terms of decades and centuries, not months and years. When a fault line has pressure built up and is overdue, that doesn’t mean scientists can predict what week you should plan on getting prepared. Could happen tomorrow, or it could be 20 years from now. The science is real, and is there to encourage people to get prepared now, before a major event.
I’m freaking out about earthquakes, and can’t think about anything else. What should I do?
While earthquakes are a scary proposition, don’t stress out! Earthquakes are a part of life, and we are smart enough to prepare proactively. Each family just needs a few hours to hash out an emergency plan, make sure they have food, water, warmth and shelter, communication and light, and other tools and essentials in place and ready to go. Once you’ve planned and have your Earthquake Bag at home, in the car and office, go on living. Relax, knowing you’ve prepared to the best of your ability.
What should I do to prepare for an earthquake?Emergency responders stress that they will be overwhelmed with requests right after an event, so they want each household to be able to stay fed and hydrated, warm and dry, turn off utilities, use first aid, maintain hygienic conditions, and have the tools necessary to survive. Once you have your bag in place, be sure to create a plan with your family. Where will you meet up? How should you evacuate your house/building? Where are the safest places in your home/office? Where is your Earthquake Bag stashed? Who is your out-of-town contact? Do you have emergency contact numbers written down and in your wallet? Copies of important documents? It doesn’t take long – just a bit of thought.
